Tool Navigator

The Tool Navigator is an in-depth resource that provides a streamlined way of finding the tools you need to work on specific skills with your clients. With just three clicks, the Tool Navigator will help you select the right tool for the right circumstance.

First Use of Tool Navigator

  • Locate and click the “Tool Navigator” button in the left navigation.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Begin”
  • On the landing page select the skill category you wish to explore.
  • Within the selected skill category, click on the skill you wish to address.   As you hover over the skills, a description of the skill is displayed.
  • Tools that address the skill are displayed in two categories, “Best Tool Choices” and “Good Tool Choices.”  You may select from either category.
  • A thumbnail of each tool is displayed along with the Tool Purpose, the Criminogenic Needs the tool addresses, and a further description of “Why this tool?”   Some tools have additional yellow notes that further describe the tools purpose.
  • The thumbnails of the tools can be enlarged by clicking the arrow icon to the right of the thumbnail.
  • To assign the tool, click on the tool title.
    1. If a Carey Guide tool is selected, you will be presented with three ways to view the tool: within the full Guide, the tool with instructions, or the worksheet only. Select how you wish to view the tool and use the “Assign Tool” button at the top of the viewer to assign the tool.
    2. If a BITS tool is selected, it is immediately viewable.  Use the “Assign Tool” button at the top of the viewer to assign the tool.
    3. Tools that are not created by Carey Group Publishing are also included in the Tool Navigator tool results.  While those tools are not available for printing or assigning from the TOD platform, we think it is important to include as many tools as possible to help your clients.  We list these tools in order to show different options for skill enhancement and mastery.
